South Island races

After finishing up all the races in the South Island, I am pretty happy with the way they went. Completing two NZ national rounds and one Top Gun race in Nelson.

First race started at the very bottom of the South Island in Bluff, had never been to Bluff before so was not too sure what to expect. The track was quite flattish so you had to be on the pedals a lot. It had been raining during the week before the race so some parts were quite boggy and made some of the lips to the jumps soft. The track wasn't my favorite but everyone had to race the same track! Race went okay, wasn't too happy with it but came down with a 4th placing in elite women. Got myself to Queenstown straight after the to get some decent riding in.

After spending an enjoyable week in Queenstown we headed up to Mt Hutt, Methven my home town in 2012. Was good to be back and couldn't wait to ride the track. The track there is fast with jumps and some technical bits in-between, an all rounded track that is just so much fun to ride. The weather there can change so rapidly as it comes over the mountains from the west coast, but luckily it stayed fine with a few rain showers which kept the dust down. Seeding run I came down with a 4th place, knowing I could make up time on the track in my final run.

Race run was very windy, but it was mostly a tail wind. As some of the jumps were in the open I was skeptical of doing a few of them incase of getting blown off! Ended up doing all as planned except one. Took the 3rd place in Elite women..first elite podium ever whohooo.

Nelsons Top Gun race was next, up on Fringe Hill, probably one of the longest tracks in NZ. I always like racing there as it is a technical and just sick as. yeow. You get tired very fast on it, so race run and full runs are challenging physically. By the bottom you feel as if your arms are going to blow out from beneath you. Ended up with a 3rd placing in Elite women once again, making up about 30 seconds from my seeding run.

Overall has been a jolly good time racing down south, next up is the North Island rounds in Levin, Hunua and National Champs at Rotorua. bring. it. on. chhhheow
