Pila IXS Cup

Last weekend was the IXS Cup in Pila, Italy, which me and the New Zealand gang travelled too. Packed up the old White lightning, which by now has no starter motor..so push started it  and climbed aboard and off we went. Luckily Pila is only about 2-3 hours away from Morzine, with the help from the Mount Blanc tunnel which is Europe's highest mountain and the tunnel about 16km long!

Arriving in Pila late afternoon on Wednesday we set up camp on the local park and slept there for a night. Us girls shotgunned the van and the boys were left with the tents, it wasn't 5 star material but we survived that night with the rain, lightning and huge thunder storms. After that night we decided to get a room because we didn't have a shower, toilet, cooking facilities or most importantly a decent sized mirror, oh em gee gurl no way could we survive that! Friday was first day practice and track walk, and with about 500 entered it was going to be busy. The track was more of a downhill track than Val D'isere because there was rocks roots jumps (mostly with landings) and just places were things could get loose! The top of the course was the technical part, with rocks and chutes, quite rough but so much fun, then gradually making its way down into some fast corners and big burns and at the bottom a nice wooden booter were you could send it as far a wide as you could. Decent airtime was once possible for the freeride crew. Riding it was so much fun!!! Got lots of practice in on the friday and got lines sorted for saturday which was seeding run.

Saturday was sunny, dusty and hot. The track started to get blown out and rough in the once slightly smooth parts, so doing a full run made it hard to hold on. Seeding run went smoothly, just got down with a clean run and a placing of 12th in elite women and 2nd place in junior women with a time of 5.01. I knew I could make up time on my race run if the conditions stayed the same..which it didn't!
On Sunday the rain sheeted down.It was like proper rain . I've never done a race in my life were all that was in my head was "stay on the bike". It rained after practice and right before we were about to race. The sun somehow found its way through the clouds and managed to dry the track out a tiny bit. But slippery times were predicted ahead.

When race run came around and I managed to keep it semi clean, stayed on but missed a few of my lines up the top which slowed me down a bit. The track was pretty slippery up the top which made it exciting. I ended up 13th in elite women and 2nd in junior with a time of 5.29 . Couldn't make up anymore time as the conditions were different and harder to ride in. Overall had a sick weekend and track was so much fun.

Now back in Morzine riding and living it up everyday. Today I rode up to Avoriaz which is a 12km ride up the steep hill on of one of the gondola sides , thanks to snowy he made me ride all the way up. Came down and jumped in the river which was refreshing!
